AN EYE OPENING SEMINAR

Enjoy hors d'oeuvres & drinks

In the recent wave of increased numbers of International families in the BOISE area, it has become more important than ever to increase our cultural awareness as a community. MECA training, an Idaho based consulting company, is hosting a seminar titled “Raising Cultural Awareness “. Our goal is to assist individuals in developing and expanding their cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity skills.

Furthermore; globalization, the expansion of intercontinental trade, technological advances and the increase in the number of companies dealing on the international stage have brought about a dramatic change in the frequency, context and means by which individuals from different cultural backgrounds interact.

Join us OCT 6th 2010 from 5:30 – 9:00 at the Adelmann in Boise.

Objectives:

  • Build awareness of how cultural differences can profoundly impact people in an organization.
  • Motivate participants to rethink their behavior and attitude toward others.
  • Allow participants to examine their own bias and focus on how they perceive differences.
  • Examine how stereotypes are developed, barriers created, and misunderstandings magnified.
  • Identify diversity issues within the organization that must be addressed.

 Who should attend:

  • Individuals, professionals and teams who regularly communicate with multi-cultural audiences.
  • People who present internationally in English in front of multi-lingual audiences.
  • People working in a cross-cultural environment, who want to be more conscious about communicating effectively with peers and colleagues.
  • Anyone with an interest in speaking to and being understood in cross-cultural settings.

ABOUT YOUR TRAINER:

Sabrina Kattouf - Moyer combines her own first-hand experience of living and working in numerous different  cultures with academic studies and extensive work  experience in the field of cultural awareness.

She has personally relocated across cultures several times since childhood and has an empathetic appreciation for those living and working across cultures.

"It sounds obvious, but it was an "Ah - Ha!" learning experience for us. Our group learned that what seems logical, sensible, important & reasonable to a person in one culture may seem irrational, stupid and unimportant in another."  Becky Shuller, WA

Bridging the gap with Cultural Awareness.

Truth be told, communicating in an inter-cultural setting is a lot more than just knowing how to greet one another properly.

Negotiation strategies, cultural context and values, among other factors play a much larger role than many think. The risk of misunderstanding is high and costly.

When looking beyond our borders, we cannot afford to ignore the culture factor.

MECA provides classes, consultation, and training to help you succeed where others simply miss the cultural cues.

We provide the know-how and training that you and your organisation needs to succeed.

We help you bridge gap with cultural awareness training.
